Thanks for the sketch. I made a few modifications but stuck to the basic fomula. Loved the O's on this sketch. The long swooping arrow from the bottom of the B to the 2^nd O worked well with the T to the B connection on top.

Jurne rocks a Serch sketch x 3

Serch served up this heater, and I wanted to show the 'interpreting and reworking' part of the Exchange project, in a series of pieces done from the same initial sketch. In doing so, the transition from one artist's work to another artist's interpretation and reworking becomes more transparent, and easier to follow.

The first piece was done "as is", with little background additions. The emphasis was on recreating the sketch with paint on a wall, to get a feeling for the lines and letter movement on a large scale.

The second piece remained within the same framework of the first, with some accruements here and there. Bars get chopped/bent and curled, colors got added, the background got buffed. The arrows got a litle more elaborate. With the thinner style, I tightened and stretched the N, coming through with a no-look, behind-the-back pass to the E.

The third version got even more chopped and screwed, really breaking the E up, and putting a snorkel top onto the R.
The feline waiter is stuck serving up some laser-hot aerosol to the wall, while the bbq dude can't help but be cool as a fan.

Here's 2 outlines I managed to get done recently; both times kind of a spur of the moment jammy. I strayed off the original sketch a fair amount; the truck's E and the wall's E most noticeably. The next one I plan on sticking to the initial as much as possible. Unfortunately I only managed to get twilight shots on both, the quality is poor with some details lost. I tried o work with what I had, hope you enjoy.

Rime sketch revisited

After painting the sketch Rime drew for me, I felt that I could flex the style a little harder.

I took a day to myself chilling at leeside and painted it again. Its a very interesting sketch to paint, because it was drawn so fluidly and fast. It became a challenge to express the same fast, long strokes done in pen, with spray paint on a wall. I like the way it came out this time, more of a crazy hybrid style. haha. Thanks joe!

Sueme Writes: I just finished the Bates exchange sketch that we talked about. I did the sketch really big its about 38" x 14" in size. I found it to be a bit tricky when sketching it out with pencil but inking with a sharpie was really fun and seemed easier than any of my previous graffiti sketches. let me know if you need a higher res. file. I have attached two pieces, one is just the sketch by itself, and the second one I added a background to it really quickly in photoshop to separate the piece from its white background(its a bit easier to read whats going on) anyway let me know what you think. peace!

I had a chance to paint a sketch that Joe drew for me when he was in vancouver. I wanted to stick with the loose letter body and creative color composition he's been rocking recently, so I chose to fill the piece with roller buff and treat it more as if it was part of the wall, rather than something I was painting on top of a wall. At first it was harder than I thought, but once I got the hang of it, I found the style very forgiving and fun to paint. I would have liked to spend some more time on details of the piece, but we got spooked a few times by train workers and had to leave..

I did rework some areas of the sketch out of habit (especially the face of the "E" and the bottom of the "M"). Hopefully I didn't go too far with it? The palm tree dude was a quick afterthought. I wanted to add some sort of character but was limited with space. Some cool arrow jump-offs had to be sacrificed.

Honke sent me a sketch from his vault of scrap paper business deals.

I decided to try out painting it in a style where the distinction between what was the "fillin" of the letter and what was the "background" was ambiguous. The intention was to paint the sketch as fast as possible, and have the style be gestural and expressive (hence the quote at the end). After throwing up a quick sketch of essential line movements, the background was painted first with cinnamon and gray, and the same approach was taken with the fill, where quick horizontal color lines were overlapped which intentionally ended beyond where the outline would fall.

Lastly, the outline was thrown on, without the usual "measure twice before you cut" approach. Instead, the focus was speed over accuracy.

The flow of the sketch was really conducive to painting in this style. ... The Fast and the Furious meets Impressionism.

this is a quick action i did with Bates, outside the gallery in berlin for the opening of the exchange exibition. Bates painted the PO from a sketch done by Serval and i painted the ET from a sketch of Stae2. I really liked it because it was a multiple-exchange and it seems like there is no limits of how to creat a piece. the only thing is you need to have style, then everything fits together. you know PLUS+PLUS=PLUS

i finally got to paint to paint this. i have never painted someone else's sketch before, and i have to say, it was heaps of fun!!! i tried to keep it as close to the original, but of course it always somehow changes once on a wall. also, i think i am usually quite rigid with my lines, so it was difficult for me to try let loose, but this was a really great exercise in doing this...thanks rime! :D

Hey Sirum, thanks again for this fresh outline.

As you can see, I didn't stick very true to the outline. I got to this abandoned factory on a cold late afternoon, and had less time then I would have liked until it got very dark, so I rushed a bit. I think that strong cursive-creepyness you applied was lost, as I made it more panel style in the rush...but I do like some of the elements I applied...
I may revisit this again, but in the meantime still owe a few outlines!

Hey Poet!! Hope you are doing good. Spring time came to Prague and there was Graffneck jam this weekend. I found your sketch from last year. Thanx for the style and funk, I kept also the 70's coloring...I painted a little bit narrower than the original just because there was no more space around me. Too many people, too perfect weather to stay at home.
